Vigilant Parent Initiative

Online Safety Workshop for Parents

Parents today face a new challenge: helping their children safely navigate an increasingly digital world.

Join us for the Vigilant Parent Initiative, a powerful parent education program presented by the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office and the Silicon Valley Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force.

This interactive workshop helps parents understand the technology and social media platforms their children use every day—and how those tools can sometimes be exploited by online predators.

During this hands-on session, participants will explore:

  • The most popular apps and platforms used by kids and teens
  • How predators and scammers communicate with youth online
  • Warning signs that a child may be in a risky online situation
  • Common slang, hidden features, and messaging behaviors used in apps
  • Strategies for having productive conversations with your child about digital safety
  • Practical tools and parental controls to monitor online activity

Parents are encouraged to bring their phones or tablets so they can follow along with demonstrations and learn how to apply safety settings in real time.

Date: April 30
Time: 6:00 – 8:30 PM
Location: Burton Valley Elementary School
