Books Bring Us Together
Our 2021 Book Fair is Now Online
Feb. 22 - Mar. 7
The book fair promotes reading for pleasure with a wonderful selection of engaging and affordable books for every reading level–as well as serving as a fundraiser for the BVE library.
TEACHER WISH LISTS
These books have been chosen by our teachers to help complete their own classroom libraries. You can sign up to purchase a book for your child’s class, have the book delivered to your home along with your family book order, and then drop the book off outside the Burton Valley office.
Our librarian Mrs. Greene has created a great guide on how to navigate the Book Fair and suggestions on new and exciting books.
Calling All Readers!
Read Across America
Mar.1 - Mar. 5
The week of March 1st will officially kick-off Burton Valley’s BOOKS BRING US TOGETHER in celebration with Read Across America. We encourage and invite all students to pick up a book and for parents to read to your child to help us spread the joy of reading. The PTA has put together daily activities and ideas for students and families. We hope you will join us!
MONDAY, MARCH 1
Do you have a favorite place to read? A cozy nook? A corner of a couch? A place in the warm sunlight? Grab your spot or create a special reading space just for you and let’s read together. Consider sharing a picture of yourself reading in your special spot on Padlet to share with other BVE students
TUESDAY, MARCH 2
National Read Across America day! We read to learn and affirm - who we are and about our community and beyond. The BVE DEI Committee has compiled a list of suggested books and ideas to get you started. As you read, you might think about what similarities you have to the character(s) in the book. What’s something new that you learned from the characters? Or think about how you can apply what you read about?
WEDNESDAY, MARCH 3
Grab a cup of hot cocoa and gather members of your household to read a book together! Sometimes books are better when someone else is reading them, maybe in a funny voice or with animated eyebrows. Who in your household makes the best character voices when reading aloud?
THURSDAY, MARCH 4
Have you ever read a non-fiction book - a book about geodes or a famous person? Have you ever read a book of poetry? Today is the day to pick up a type of book (genre or theme) that you normally wouldn’t read. What will this book inspire you to read next? Maybe explore the Book Fair for ideas.
FRIDAY, MARCH 5
A very special Guest Reader will be joining your classrooms today! We hope you enjoy the readings as you celebrate BVE Spirit Day in your pajamas. Although our BOOKS BRING US TOGETHER celebration week is over, we hope you will keep reading and share your love of a book with a friend!
Book Bonanza MARCH 1-MARCH 12
Mrs. Martinsen’s class will be collecting and donating gently used books for their Book Bonanza as a way of not only celebrating a love of reading but SHARING it! Be on the lookout for informational posters and book collection boxes on campus March 1-March 12.
